Historical Gardens of North Manchester
Leesa Metzger
March 11th 2010 - 7:00pm
Blocher Room at North Manchester Library
Attendance: 11
After
a brief greeting and introduction from club president, Rhonda Swaidner, the
meeting was immediately turned over to Leesa Metzger. Leesa presented a
power point program titled “Historic Gardens for Historic Homes.” Her
program included beautiful pictures of landscaping treatments of historic
homes throughout North Manchester and other communities. Leesa also shared
examples of landscaping choices applied to different types of architecture.
Following the program, members and guest enjoyed refreshments provided by
Deb Bauer while Rhonda opened the meeting to regular club business. A 2010
schedule was handed out and reviewed and then the following topics were
discussed:
-
Membership dues will remain $10.00.
-
Supplies of Honey Hoes are in Rhonda’s garage. Hoes are for sale to members
and the public for $20.00 each.
-
Engraved bricks are still available for the Eel River Garden. The price is
$50.00. Anyone wanting a brick engraved should contact Martha Music.
-
Due
to the destruction or damage of some of the downtown flower pots, the
American in Bloom committee has asked if they could trade us for our pots
located in front of the Eel River Garden side walk. This style of pot is no
longer available and ours are far enough away that a different appearance
would not be obvious. We have 2 of these large pots and it was suggested
that a row of 5 slightly smaller pots would be more attractive. This would
also allow club members to add more color along the sidewalk. The pots could
also be fitted with a water line, taking advantage of the automatic watering
system. General comments from those in attendance seemed to be in favor of
this solution.
-
Members were asked to clean their Eel River Garden sections before the April
Tulip Festival.
President, Rhonda asked for any additional items to be discussed and the
meeting was closed.
The next meeting will be April 8th , at Rhonda Swaidner’s home, 7:00 PM.
