New Plants
Minutes - Martha North Manchester Green House hosted the site of our April 9th Garden Club meeting. Eleven members and guests started the evening off by browsing through the greenhouse sections as speaker and new owner Ryan Baker pointed out interesting plants and projects that were underway. Ryan had many new plant varieties, including a variety of Colocasia Gigantia. (Elephant Ear Plant) that was already over 4 foot tall, and many new colors of Heuchera, (Coral Bells). We also got an early peek at the new deep red geranium color released this year. Calliope Red makes the original red geranium look red-orange in comparison. Its blend of the upright and trailing geranium also makes it a perfect container plant. Following our greenhouse tour, we assembled in the garage to watch a power point program on the many new plant releases for 2009. Ryan had also assembled some sample plants for us to look at. A brief break allowed the members to enjoy refreshments provided by Rhonda. Rhonda then opened the general meeting. Minutes from our March 12th meeting were read by Martha Music; Deb Bauer gave the treasurers report. Our ending balance in checking account is currently $1411.50. Rhonda mentioned that the watering schedule for the Eel River Gardens still had several open dates and asked for volunteers to fill those slots. An order form for T-shirts and Polo shirts was handed out and a sample of the finished shirt was available for members to examine. T-shirt cost was $8.00 and polo’s were $13.00. Orders and money will be due at the next monthly meeting. The meeting closed at approximately 8:45. Our next meeting will be at Charley Creek Gardens in Wabash Indiana, May 14th. 7:00 PM.
