Saxton Nursery
June 12th 2008

We met at President Danna's house at 6:20 before departing on a road trip to  Saxton Nursery located on Highway 14 about 5 miles west of Ft Wayne and 6 miles east of Highway 9.  Our hearts began racing upon arrival, with the anticipation of exploring the overwhelming, first impression we had of the gardening areas, and the unique buildings.  We were even determined to conquer the ravaging mosquitoes!  The nursery is described as a "destination" since it is off the beaten path and for that reason the business is careful to change its inventory almost weekly so that returning customers will always have plenty of new items to drool over.  In addition to selling perennials, tropicals and annuals the nursery offers total Landscape Design Services aided by computer software, Interior Consulting, and it has several retail buildings which include a Nursery Garden Shop, and the Ivy House Gifts.  Saxton's also offers hands-on workshops one Saturday a month where participants can "Learn from the Pros!".  The 2008 workshops include Aesthetic Living Outdoor Ideas, Walkway Pavers and Retaining Walls, Ponds and Pondless Waterfalls, Spring to Fall Changeover Containers, and Fall Pruning and Maintenance.  Thanks go out to Nancy for arranging this trip and providing the refreshments!
