Minutes 6-12-08 Meeting
Our meeting for June was held at Saxton’s Nursery at 7195 St Rd 14E, Columbia City, IN 46725. We met at 7:00 and were allowed to walk at our leisure to look at all the different plants that were available. We were also asked to check out their garden center and Ivy house Gifts.
We had a short meeting in the meeting room which is available. Carmen, who works at Saxton’s, began the meeting with a description of their workshops they have every third Saturday of each month. Please go to www.saxtonnursery.com and to see if you are interested in any of them.
Deb Bauer gave the treasurer’s report which had $1,356.00 at that time.
We need to get a count on the honey hoes to see if we need to order more. It is believed that we will have to order 50 to place an order.
Garden of the month was Jeff and Missy Warner.
We were asked to volunteer to check ticks at the garden walk on June 28th. We had several volunteer.
Danna Walters wrote a letter to the town to ask that funds be set aside for the garden club in their budget for next year. We need to make sure that it is noted that every year we will need to do this. Also we need to ask that they roll over any funds left over from year to year. So far we have spent around $300 of $400 we were designated.
Rhonda Swaidner said she would purchase a hyacinth bean for the wood trellis in Eel River Gardens. The plant that was originally there, died.
We were asked to start thinking of plants for the Harvest Fest. Seeds, bulbs or plants that we have from our garden that we have in excess would be great.
We need ideas for a fall program at the library in September. We would need a program a week for three weeks. Nancy Reed suggested we have a demonstration on sharpening tools. We would also like to visit Ryan Baker’s Country View Greenhouse.
Our next meeting will be at Amy Neilds on July 10th.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00.
