Roses
Bernie Ferringer
April 10th 2008

A seemingly record number of gardeners turned-out for our April meeting at Linda's lovely home.  Our featured presenter was Bernie Ferringer from the North Manchester Greenhouse who gave a talk on roses and other new plants for 2008.  Several other greenhouse owners were also in attendance.  He suggested pruning out the centers of the rose bushes for good air circulation and to make sure they got a minimum of  6 - 8 hours of direct sunlight to reduce the risk of mold and mildew.  Another good tip was to avoid a winter mulch of maple leaves that tend to form a wet mat, although winter protection was still encouraged.    Bernie also gave some gardening advice on the planting and pruning of mums.

In other business the May 8th meeting at the Town Gardens was changed to May 15th to insure that the annuals would not frost.  Don't forget breakfast at Rhonda's on April 19th at 8:00 followed by the Town Garden cleanup. [minutes]

Linda and Nancy provided some good "munchables", and of course, everything always looks better at Linda's house.

Oops, the photographer moved.  Leesa and MaryAnn appear to be discussing what color top they should wear next month :-D

Nothing like Springtime and some new plant offerings to bring a smile to a gardener's face.
