Minutes 4-10-08 Meeting
The garden club met on
April 10th at Linda Richards home for a program on roses by Bernie Ferringer.
Bernie gave us lots of tips on how to plant, fertilize, care for and prune
roses. He also brought plants from his greenhouse and gave us advice on what
works best with them.
We had planned to have breakfast at Rhonda Swaidner’s home and then clean Eel
River Gardens on Saturday, April 12th but due to the weather forecast, we
changed it to April 19th. Breakfast will be at 8:00. Everyone was asked to bring
any tools they felt they needed to clean the gardens.
Leesa Metzger reported the t-shirts will cost $8.00 and polo shirts will be
$12.00. Alan White is designing the garden club logo for us and will blend it
with America in Bloom’s logo and tourism’s for the shirts.
Deb Bauer reported that our bank balance is $1,314.67. She also said we had 9
members sign and pay dues at our last meeting and 6 signed up that night for a
total of 15.
Danna asked anyone that had not signed up to water the gardens, please do so if
possible. We are still trying to get the gardens irrigated and Leesa Metzger
said she would try to get an estimate from Scott’s Landscaping. Leesa talked
with John Mugford and he said that he felt the street department could help with
running the lines.
John also asked if we could trim or cut down the tree in the center section,
east end of the garden. It is hard to go around without hitting it with large
vehicles. We decided we would have them remove it.
We discussed whether we would give the garden of the month a honey hoe and it
was decided that we would.
The agriculture class in conjunction with Steve Batska will work on cleaning the
Halderman Cemetery. If our help is needed, they will let us know.
We will meet on May 15th at 6:00 pm to clean and plant Eel River gardens.
Everyone was asked to pick a portion of the gardens that they would be
responsible for. If you have not stated which portion you would like, please see
Danna who has the map.
