America in Bloom
Leesa Metzger
March 13th 2008

Thanks to 50° temperatures the mood was festive as garden club members emerged from hibernation to kick off another season.  As was the case last year, the program featured Manchester's best-known gardening expert Leesa Metzger who presented slides taken last summer of local gardens during a visit by American in Bloom judges.  The community was evaluated on the basis of eight categories, including tidiness, environmental awareness, heritage, urban forestry, landscaped areas, flora displays, turf and ground cover areas and, most importantly, community involvement.

It was encouraging to see many new faces in attendance.  After a brief introduction, Danna got down to the business of selling honey hoes and bricks, cleaning up the town gardens, and the club's presence at the October Fest. [minutes]
