Seed Growing
Martha Music
August 16th 2007

Due to the Fun Fest. the club postponed its meeting until the third Thursday of the month.  Meeting at the Blocher room in the library, the club was delighted with a presentation by Martha Music on seed growing.  As shown in the photo, Martha demonstrated how to collect, harvest, and dry seeds from garden plants depending upon their flower shapes.  The extracted seeds can then be shared with other gardeners,  used to re-seed the area, or sown in flats in the Spring.  Growing flowers that produce many seeds attract a wide variety of birds to the garden.  Martha brought along a few seed trays showing plants in various stages of growth.  She highly recommends the British website http://theseedsite.co.uk for good information on seed growing as well as many useful links for a particular plant.  Also present was Nancy Reed who is helping to make North Manchester a nationally recognized America In Bloom community.  Jane, Rhonda and Deb provided the refreshments. In other business the club discussed setting up a booth for the October Harvest Festival.  [minutes]
