Minutes 5-12-05 Meeting
The Manchester Garden Club’s meeting on May 12, 2005, was at Terri’s home on Wayne Street. We did a landscaper’s challenge for Terri’s garden. We broke up into three teams and tried to decide what plants would do best in her part sun, part shade yard. The group with the best design will receive a reward at our next meeting, which is scheduled for June 9th at the Eel River Gardens.
We will be planting the gardens and mulch will be delivered so we can also spread it out. The meeting time was changed to 6:00 pm so we would have more time to get everything done.
During the meeting we discussed the “Garden of the Month” which Karen has been handling but would like some suggestions for new gardens of the month. Several names were mentioned and I have them written down if Karen needs them. Gardens considered for “Garden of the Month” are not created by professional gardeners and we might keep them in mind as potential new members. We also mentioned posting the garden and other club information on channel 20, a cable station that has North Manchester news and events. Karen Volk is the contact for this.
It was suggested that the minutes be mailed to members who missed a meeting and we decided to decline this suggestion. Rhonda will email the minutes to the members who provide her with an email address.
The Town of North Manchester would like a list of work that they need to do to the Eel River Gardens from each section. Some examples were the painting of the bench, removal of overgrown trees, and the plaque being raised. The Town was asked to remove some tall grasses and they immediately had them removed for us. We thank them very much and appreciate the work it took to get them out.
Rhonda will call Scott’s on irrigating the gardens but it was determined that Scott’s would probably not have time to do it this year. The water is turned on, so we will be able to water during dry weather.
For members who need to purchase plants for their sections of the garden, just go to Manchester Greenhouse to pick out what you need and charge it to the Town. Zinnias were suggested to add color to the garden. They do not need as much care as other annuals.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm.
