We met at the downtown Center for History for a very interesting presentation by Karen Hewitt on past Garden Club activity in North Manchester. The first known club was established in 1928, and dues were 48¢. Interestingly, all 12 members were female (Bob, Wally, and Rick can relate to that!). Meetings, which were on the 1st Wednesday of the month, had four different programs/presentations and took up most of an afternoon which meant members usually got off work to attend them. Members helped maintain a cemetery that had a water garden. [ more photos]
